Report of 14th SAFOG conference

14th SAFOG conference was held on 23rd & 24th September2023 at Hotel Lalit, Mumbai with Pre-congress workshops on Friday 24th September at Cooper hospital & Holy family hospital. This conference was arranged in association with FOGSI & hosted by MOGS.

Theme of conference was Cutting edge Management in ObGyn.

Conference had 16 international Faculty from SAFOG countries, 59 National faculty from FOGSI & many local faculty from MOGS.

There were total 5 pre-congress workshops held on Friday 22nd September, 4 workshops being held at HBTMC & Cooper hospital and one workshop held at Holy family hospital, Andheri. Four workshops held at Cooper hospital were Obstetric Dilemmas; Infertility for every Gynecologist; Functional (Aesthetic) Gynecology and Obstetrics Ultrasonography, while workshop held at Holy family hospital was live workshop on Gynec. Endoscopy. (Separate report attached)

Following these workshops, on 24th September Friday night, SAFOG YGA night function followed by faculty dinner was held at Hotel Raddison Blue, Andheri. This session had presentations by candidates from SAFOG countries for Young Gynecologist Award, This YGA session was Judged by Dr Pratik Tambe and Dr Gaurav Desai.

Following candidates were nominated from different countries.

The main conference started on 25th September with free communications/paper sessions followed by main scientific sessions, including guest lectures, panel discussions, and sessions by RCOG, FIGO, FOGSI & Gestosis.

The inauguration of the conference was held in the evening of the first day, starting with the Flag-March of participating SAFOG nations. Dr. S. Arulkumaran was the Chief Guest. The outgoing president of SAFOG outlined the report of activities carried out during his presidential tenure. Dr. Shyam Desai was installed as the President of SAFOG.

In his presidential speech, Dr. Shyam Desai briefed everyone about his proposed activities for his tenure. Chief guest Arulkumaran praised the work being done by SAFOG in improving women’s health in the region. Felicitations were extended to the chief guest and the Guest of Honor, including Dr. Shirish Daftary, Dr. Sadhana Desai, Dr. Usha Saraiya, and Dr. Usha Krishna. The SAFOG conference souvenir was also released on this occasion.

The inauguration was followed by a short cultural program and then dinner.

Day 2 of the conference also had a feast of scientific deliberations, including lectures, orations, key-note addresses, and panel discussions. During this conference, there were 2 orations, 2 key-note addresses, 14 Panel Discussions, and many guest lectures.

Second Oration - SAFOG DR. RASHID LATIF KHAN ORATION: Delivered by out-going SAFOG president Dr. Rohana Hathotuwa on the subject of ‘SAFOG- TOWARDS ZERO MATERNAL DEATHS DUE TO PPH’

Conference also had a trade exhibition of 13 stalls & 7 table spaces of academic partners, which were visited by all delegates.

During the valedictory session, prizes of free papers were announced & winners were felicitated.

Chief guest Dr. Arulkumaram, Past president Dr. Rohana Hatotula, and other dignitaries on the dais praised the scientific content & overall organization of the conference.

Total number of registrations for the conference were 754, which included 67 foreign delegates & 37 PG student registrations.

Maharashtra Medical Council had granted 4 credit hours for this conference while ICOG had granted 15 credit points.

Report on SAFOG Pre-Congress Workshops conducted at HBTMC

Pre-Congress Workshops of the 14th International SAFOG conference hosted by MOGS were held at HBTMC & Cooper hospital new building on Friday, 22nd September 2023 between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. These workshops were organized by the Department of ObGy of HBTMC.

The entire program was a grand success with an enthusiastic turnout of participants in all the workshops, with a total registration & participants being 340.

Various Obstetric Drills were conducted for all the delegates, which were enthusiastically attended by faculties, residents, and nursing staff. Excellent talks were given by National and International faculties, including Dr. Arul Kumaran, past FIGO President, and Dr. Mark Hanson, co-chair FIGO. Delegates had the opportunity to perform Hands-on techniques of Compression suture, COMOC MG Technique, and Internal iliac ligation. Total 88 delegates attended this workshop.

The workshop was telecasted live for delegates to attend remotely. Amazing talks on detailed evaluation, the role of hormones, and newer insights on physiology were delivered by our National faculties. Total 90 delegates attended this workshop, some online.

Threw light on the recent advances in the field, use of stem cells, and newer energy sources in Functional gynecology.

Speakers from all over the country gave enlightening talks on different aspects of the field.

Total 55 delegates attended this workshop.

Had exclusive hands-on training for the delegates. Detailed talks on 1st and 2nd-trimester scan and different types of 1st and 2nd-trimester screening tests were given by all national faculties of the field.

Different types of Simulator demo were given to the delegates followed by hands-on training. Total 55 delegates attended the workshop.

Report of live operative endoscopy pre-congress workshop of 14th SAFOG international conference

Live Operative Endoscopy Workshop was held at Holy Spirit Hospital Andheri East on 22/9/2023 from 9 am To 5 pm.

The Conveners for the Workshop were Dr Rajendra Sankpal, Dr Gaurav Desai, and Dr Rajesh Modi.

Operating Faculties were Dr B Ramesh from Bangalore, Dr Sanket Pisat, Dr Gaurav Desai, Dr Atul Ganatra, Dr Kevin Quadros, Dr Rajesh Modi, and Dr Rajendra Sankpal.

Relay of Live Surgeries was conducted from the OT To The Beautiful Large Auditorium of The Hospital Using 20 Feet X 14 Feet Led Screen.

Program Started with Live Demonstration of Surgeries.

Inauguration was done by our President Dr Anahita Chouhan along With Dr Susan Sodder Consultant Gynecologist & Medical Director and Sister Lissy Administrative Director of Holy Spirit Hospital.

Total 10 Interesting Surgeries were Demonstrated from Holy Spirit Hospital which Included Step By Step Tlh, Laparoscopic Myomectomy And Excision Of Endometriomas, Difficult Tlh, Ureteric Endometriosis, Laparoscopic Salpingooophorectomy, Hysteroscopic Metroplasty, Septum Resection and Polypectomy. Live Streaming of Laparoscopic Vaginoplasty Was Performed by Dr B Ramesh from Ramesh Hospital, Bangalore. Live Surgery Transmission Was Extremely Good.

Total 68 Onsite Delegates attended the Live Surgery Demonstration and 128 Delegates Participated Online.

Delegates Enjoyed the Live Relay of Surgery on The Led Screen and Discussion.
